Ulun Danu Temple

Ulun Danu Bratan, or Pura Bratan, is a major Shivaite & water temple on Bali, Indonesia -the other being the major water temple Ulun Danu Batur. The temple complex is locatedon the shores of Lake Bratan in the mountains near Bedugul. Water temples serve the entire region in the outflow area; downstream water there are many smaller temples arespecific to each That irrigation association (subak). 


Built in 1663, this temple is used for offerings ceremony to the Balinese water, lake andriver goddess Dewi Danu, due to the importance of Lake Bratan as a main source ofirrigation in central Bali. The 11 stories of pelinggih Meru dedicated for Shiva and hisConsort Parvathi. Buddha statue inside this temple also present.

The name of Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is taken from the lake where the temple is builtat Beratan Lake. The name of Beratan Lake is Inseparable with the Beratan Mount asdeity and Goddess as fertility source, prosperity to keep the prosperity in life and societylife. In papyrus chronicle of the Mengwi, this temple is Referred as the name ofParhyangan ri pinggiring danu Beratan (sanctum located in lakeside of Beratan Lake).Ulun is come from Hulu word meaning head or power and in this case is intended by UlunDanu Beratan means power of Beratan Lake That Is Goddess Danu.


Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is consisted of four temples That complex are:

• Linga Temple owns the plot function to worship the God Shiva
• Upgrading Pucak Mangu Temple gate as this is Referred Parhyangan ri pinggiringswamp or Danu Beratan Beratan Temple is founded by I Gusti Agung Putu to worship thedeity Hyang ing Parwata or the which is placed in Pucak Mangu That Is Bhatara Hyang  Danawa as According to papyrus of Padma Bhuwana and Usana Bali, Mangu BecauseMount is located in the north direction, Hence it is called the of Lord Vishnu or GodHyang Danawa
• Terate Bang Temple is functioning to worship of  Brahma God
• Dalem Purwa Temple is functioning to worship of Goddess Danu the which isConsidered to be miraculous of the Bhatara Hyang Danawa or Goddess Laksmi.

In Papyrus Chronicle of the Mengwi is elaborated by the history of Ulun Danu BeratanTemple founding together with existence of the Empire Mengwi. Therefore its status ispertained with the secondhand of Temple Empire what is usually pertained as Dangheaven. It is the same to the description in papyrus of Usana Bali and Padma Bhuwana,Hence Puncak Mangu Temple where the Panyawangan (representative place toworship) is the Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. So it is called by residents as ParadiseBalinese entire Jagat (The Biggest Group of Hindu Temple in Bali)
